The pearl crown which will be awarded to Miss Ocean Vietnam 2017 is worth VND3.2 billion (US$140,000), according to the organizing committee of the pageant.
In addition to the crown made by artisans of Hoang Gia Pearl, the beauty queen will receive a cash prize of VND600
Fashion designer Vo Viet Chung, head of the organizing committee, said the Miss Ocean Vietnam would be responsible for calling for young people and the community to protect marine life and the ecosystem.
Those passing the qualifying round of the contest set for April 1 to September 1 will enter the semi-final and final rounds in Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan Province.
The coronation night will be broadcast live on VTV9 on October 27.
There will be three top prizes and some extra titles like Miss Ao dai, Miss Bikini, Miss Fashion and Miss Photogenic.
French director Henri Hubert, who has had 35 years’ experience in fashion industry, will be in charge of the coronation night at the Fisherman Show Theater.
Dang Thu Thao, 22, from the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho was the first Miss Ocean Vietnam in 2014.

Miss Ocean Vietnam 2017 to promote environmental protection in Vietnam
The organizers of Miss Ocean Vietnam 2017 beauty contest has announced to host the event from June 1 to October 30 with its key target to promote environmental protection in the country.
Designer Vo Viet Chung, founder of the contest, said Vietnam is facing severe pollution.
Thus, “via the beauty contest we wish to call on the community’s awareness on environmental protection and stop damaging our living space.”
Miss Ocean Vietnam is one of the two national beauty pageants which are allowed to be organized this year, together with Miss Vietnam contest which was initiated in 1988 by Tien Phong newspaper.
The qualification round in the north of Miss Ocean Vietnam 2017 will take place in Hanoi on September 15 while the qualification round in the south will be held in HCMC on September 22.
A final round is expected to take place from October 11 to 28 while a coronation night will be at Huyen thoai Lang Chai Theater on October 28 in Mui Ne in the central coastal city of Phan Thiet in Binh Thuan Province.
Huyen thoai Lang Chai Theater is a newly-inaugurated construction with a total budget of over VND50 billion. The coronation night is expected to be broadcasted on VTV9 and VTV2.
A judging panel of veteran artists and experts in different fields in Vietnam will help find out the beauty queen of the night.

HCM CITY— Women from across the country have been invited to take part in Miss Ocean Vietnam 2017, an event to encourage environmental protection.
The contest will feature women aged 18 to 35 who are high school graduates and at least 1.65 metres tall.
The organisers of the beauty event said they had invited a group of experts in the field to select 30 candidates for the contest’s final round in Phan Thiết City.
At the semifinals scheduled in early September, the contestants will compete in the categories of talent, swimsuit, and question-and-answer sessions.
They will also take part in social and charity activities to encourage people, particularly youth, to protect the environment and promote the country’s sea tourism.
American stylist Henri Hubert, who has more than 35 years of experience in fashion, and his staff of Vietnamese designers and models will help lead the contestants during the event.
The final night will take place on October 27 at the outdoor theatre Fishermen’s Show in Phan Thiết.
The winner will receive gifts worth VNĐ3 billion (nearly US$ 132,000).
The contest’s selective rounds will begin in April in Hà Nội and HCM City.

Lots of beauty pageant contestants talk a good game about the environment, but the dreamboats at The Grand — Ho Tram Strip’s Miss Ocean Vietnam 2014 Gala are actually helping the coastal charity Blue Ocean World with their good looks, to the tune of VND220 million.
At the gala, fashion and a VND1.6 billion jeweled crown helped raise awareness of the importance of Vietnam’s magnificent coastline and the ocean that lies off it. In the end, bombshell Le Thi Van Quynh went home with the honours, crowned ‘The Grand Beauty’ at a Zumba dance pool party.
